MONTICELLO – Property taxes in Monticello will be going up again in the 2026-27 village budget.
The board of trustees approved the spending plan by a vote of three to one, with one member absent.
Trustee Gordon Jenkins, a former mayor, was the sole ‘no’ vote.
“There’s always room to stop the spending. The more money sometimes you give, and the more you have to play with, that’s what it is. So, I’m totally against tax increasing when I know you can cut places where you don’t have to place the burden on the taxpayer,” he said.
Jenkins’ significant other, Mayor Rochelle Massey, voted for the budget that will see the property tax rate increase by 4 ½ percent.
