KINGSTON – The Ulster County Legislature has announced the release of a public survey as part of its Zero Waste policy planning.

“This survey represents a critical step in our Zero Waste planning in hearing from daily users, businesses owners, haulers and municipalities on how we can collaborate and make informed decisions on our path to a Zero Waste future. I would encourage all stakeholders to take the time to fill out this survey so we can create the most accurate snapshot of our waste system,” said Legislator Chris Hewitt, chairman of the Energy, Environment & Sustainability Committee.

The legislature is developing a Zero Waste Policy Guidance Document to support practical, measurable, and coordinated policy development related to solid waste reduction, recycling, organics recovery, reuse, data reporting, and sustainable materials management.

The document is intended to help inform county policy discussions, clarify roles and responsibilities, and identify priority planning and policy initiatives that can support continued progress toward the county’s Zero Waste objectives.

Survey responses will help guide lawmakers with coordination from MSW Consultants on priorities, existing strengths, gaps in service and opportunities for growth.

All information is confidential and will be aggregated by MSW for consideration by the legislature.

The survey is open through Sunday, July 26, 2026 and can be found .
