PEEKSKILL – City officials in Peekskill celebrated the completion of its Enlighten Peekskill art walk on Thursday along with State Secretary of State Walter Mosley.

The project is part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative’s $10 million grant.

Mosley acknowledged that small cities in the Hudson Valley fell into decay generations ago, but are coming back to life, and the public arts program has been one of the driving forces in Peekskill’s revitalization.

“Peekskill has been a welcoming city for artists, whether they are local artists, whether they are artists from outside Peekskill or the State of New York,” he said. “We understand the power of art to transform spaces, to celebrate local culture, to create lasting connections between residents and visitors alike.”

Other components of Peekskill’s DRI grant included creating a Downtown Civic Hub; improving connections for pedestrians and cyclists between the waterfront and downtown; revitalizing the Paramount Theater and developing space for a Peekskill Arts Center; reconstructing the pier and park at the Hudson River; and transforming the Kiley Youth Center into a new home for the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester.
