CARMEL – Mahopac Board of Education member Tanner McCracken will represent the GOP on Election Day as he runs for the Putnam County Legislature seat being vacated by Amy Sayegh, who is not seeking a third term.

McCracken did not receive the backing of the Putnam GOP, yet he waged a primary fight against the endorsed candidate Carmel Deputy Supervisor and Councilman Frank Lombardi and was overwhelming elected—586-200 in Tuesday’s Primary Election.

McCracken will be facing Democrat Gwendolyn Burke in November.

In a second GOP race, former Kent Councilman Jorma Tompuri was defeated by Joseph Cunningham for the legislative seat currently held by Toni Addonizio who is leaving the nine-member governing body on December 31 due to term limits.

Cunningham tallied 287 votes to Tompuri’s 180.

The winner will face Democrat Kathy Kahng for the legislative seat representing the greater Kent-Patterson area.
