CARMEL – School districts across Hudson Valley are posting ‘help wanted’ signs as they look for bus drivers.
The Carmel District, Putnam County’s largest, hopes to attract new employees through a one-time signing bonus.
The Carmel Board of Education approved a resolution offering a $1,000 bonus for newly hired bus drivers who successfully complete five months of continuous employment with the district, effective immediately.
Superintendent Michael Plotkin is hopeful the incentive will attract new employees to the district that transports some 3,700 children across 84 square miles.
The Board of Education also ratified an agreement between the district and the Civil Service Employees Association Local 1000 extending a collective bargaining agreement for four years from July 1 through June 30, 2030.
From July 1 through August 31 of each year covered by the contract, the standard assignment will be a 35-hour work week, with overtime paid for weekend hours.
For employees represented by the CSEA, salaries will rise 2.5 percent each year, and the tool allowance will increase to $1,250 effective July 1.
