CARMEL – The Putnam County Veterans Museum was unveiled this week, creating a permanent tribute to local military veterans and their service to the nation.

County officials said the museum was made possible in part through a $50,000 state grant secured by Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown).

The museum is located at Veterans Memorial Park and was developed through a collaborative effort involving the Putnam County Historian’s Office, Veterans Service Agency, Department of Public Works, Parks Division, Planning Department, Joint Veterans Council, and other county departments and community organizations.

County Executive Kevin Byrne said the museum will serve as both an educational resource and a place of reflection for residents and visitors.

“The opening of the new Veterans Museum at Veterans Memorial Park is another important step in preserving the stories and sacrifices of the men and women who have served our nation,” Byrne said. “This museum will provide residents, students and visitors with a meaningful opportunity to connect with our local military history and honor the legacy of our veterans.”

Byrne thanked Slater for securing funding for the project and credited county agencies and community partners for helping bring the museum to fruition. Officials said the museum is intended to preserve local military history and ensure future generations understand the contributions made by Putnam County veterans and the impact of their service on the community and the country.
