ALBANY – Private sector jobs increased by one percent for the 12-month period ending May 2026, according to the New York State Department of Labor.

Hudson Valley Labor Market Analyst Johny Nelson repeated Thursday the private sector job count in the Hudson Valley rose by 9,400 to 862,700 with gains reported in mining, logging and construction, private education and health services, financial activities, leisure and hospitality, trade, transportation and utilities, professional and business services.

The region’s private sector continued to trend upward.  May’s employment count was the highest on record dating back to 2000.

Within the region, Rockland County’s private employment sector grew the fastest year-over-year, up 3.2 percent.  The second fastest growth was recorded in Sullivan County followed by Westchester County and Ulster County.

Meanwhile, job losses were concentrated in the Orange-Dutchess area, while employment in Putnam County remained unchanged.
