KINGSTON – The Hudson Valley Tenants’ Union has set its platform and protections for residents living in rented apartments.
June Nemon, the lead organizer for the Kingston-based group, said the agenda includes several protections.
“Our primary goal is to organize tenants’ associations and build economic and to build economic power, particularly in different landlord portfolios to make sure we have as much possible leverage to bring landlords to the table and collectively bargain,” Nemon said. “We are fighting to expand and protect our tenant protections, which makes those things a lot easier. We are seeking to build a movement capable of winning true Democratic controlled housing.”
Nemon also said they hope to expand their movement to renters across the Hudson Valley.
