MONTICELLO – The Town of Thompson, Monday, celebrated the opening of a new playground and dog park at East Mongaup River Park in Monticello. The 173-acre site has inclusive features designed to be accessible for children of all abilities.

Town Supervisor Scott Mace said the new playground is for everyone’s enjoyment.

“A lot of this is ADA-compliant, or a part of it is, so kids can just roll through here. Anyone with mobility challenges can walk through here but there are all sorts of play features here.”

Sullivan 180 provided a sizable amount of money for the project, and just awarded the town with a $100,000 Silver Feather award for another park. Shannon Cilento, from the organization, said it was good to see how this project came together.

“They’ve done a tremendous amount of work here at East Mongaup River Park, and now they’re turning their focus to building out Lake Ida Park.”

Mace said he appreciates Sullivan 180 for all they do. “I don’t think I can say enough about it. They understand what we’re trying to do here in the town of Thompson.”
