BEDFORD – Twenty-three dogs will soon be calling the Hudson Valley home after arriving in Patterson en route to A New Chance Animal Rescue in Bedford, thanks to a nonprofit organization dedicated to transporting at-risk animals from under-resourced shelters.

Pilots to the Rescue was founded by Michael Schneider in 2015, working to connect animals in overcrowded shelters with rescue organizations that have the resources and space needed to care for them.

Through air and ground transport missions, the organization helps move animals from areas with limited adoption opportunities to communities where they have a greater chance of finding permanent homes.

Zach Cavosi said his group’s latest transport from South Carolina highlights the “critical role animal rescue organizations and transport networks play in giving vulnerable animals a second chance and helping them find loving homes forever.”

Since its inception, Pilots to the Rescue has completed 410 missions, traveled 495,839 miles, and helped save 7,211 animals. The organization carries out these missions with a fleet of two planes and multiple vans across the country.
