NEWBURGH – Thirty college student volunteers from ASEZ (Save the Earth from A to Z) spent part of Sunday cleaning up Downing Park in Newburgh.
The effort was part of the Global Bue Carbon Ecosystem Protection Initiative 2026.
State Senator Rob Rolison (R, Poughkeepsie) joined the cleanup.
“When you have a clean space, a healthy space, it’s good for the environment,” he said.
The group cleaned up over 1,600 pieces of trash and plastic from the park in an effort to stop plastic pollution before it reaches the ocean.
University student Lexi Burnham, said by taking part in the Blue Caron Campaign, it “allowed me to see firsthand how important it is to gain knowledge that inspires action on our campuses and in our communities.”
