LIVINGSTON – Two troopers who were in a marked patrol car were hospitalized after their vehicle was struck by a car that had crossed into their lane on Friday evening. The accident occurred at approximately 6:27 p.m. on June 12, on County Route 31 near Hill Road in Livingston.
The preliminary investigation determined that the marked State Police patrol vehicle was traveling southbound on County Route 31 when an oncoming vehicle crossed into its lane of travel. The Trooper operating the patrol vehicle left the roadway onto the west shoulder to avoid the errant vehicle, but was unable to avoid a collision.
A Field Training Officer (FTO) and a probationary Trooper were in the car at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries. They were transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital, treated, and released.
The second vehicle, a Lexus SUV operated by a 72-year-old New Jersey resident, contained three additional occupants. The driver and one passenger were transported to the hospital for evaluation. Two passengers were evaluated at the scene and declined further medical treatment.
At this time, the investigation has determined no criminal activity was involved and the cause of the wreck is still being investigated.
