KINGSTON – The Ulster County Transportation Council (UCTC) will begin conducting traffic counts on Albany Avenue and Ulster Avenue in the City of Kingston and Town of Ulster starting Sunday, June 14.

The counts are being conducted in support of an ongoing corridor study to evaluate travel patterns for future transportation planning and investment decisions.

Residents may notice small roadside cameras positioned near intersections and crosswalks, as well as temporary black tubes placed across roadways. The devices are standard traffic-counting tools used to measure pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicle activity. The cameras will record the number of pedestrians and cyclists, and track vehicle turning movements, while the tubes will capture vehicle counts, vehicle types, and speeds. All equipment will remain in place for less than two weeks before being removed.

No personal data will be collected. Only anonymized movement information will be gathered to help UCTC and its consultant, National Data & Surveying Services, evaluate corridor conditions and plan improvements.
