GOSHEN – More than 200 student-athletes from Orange and Sullivan counties gathered this weekend to celebrate inclusion, competition and achievement during the 10th annual Elementary Special Olympics.

The event, hosted by the Goshen Central School District for the second consecutive year, welcomed 218 athletes from 10 school districts across the two counties.

Students participated in a variety of athletic activities while being cheered on by teachers, family members, volunteers, and supporters. Organizers said the milestone event highlighted the spirit of the Special Olympics and provided young athletes with an opportunity to showcase their abilities in a supportive environment.

The annual event relied heavily on the support of local businesses and community volunteers, whose donations of time and resources helped make the day possible. School officials described the event as a success and praised the athletes for their enthusiasm and determination throughout the competition.

At the conclusion of the games, Goshen ceremonially passed the torch to Port Jervis, which will host the Elementary Special Olympics next year, continuing a tradition that has brought together students and school communities across the region for a decade.
