SAUGERTIES- The Kiwanis Club of Saugerties will mark America’s 250th birthday with a community cake celebration on July 4 at Cantine Field.

The event will take place under the Main Pavilion and feature a three-tiered patriotic cake along with 10 sheet cakes prepared by The Meltaway Bakery.  Organizers expect to serve approximately 1,300 people during the free community gathering.

Kiwanis Club President Peg Nau said the celebration is intended to bring neighbors and visitors together to commemorate the nation’s semi-quincentennial with a traditional birthday party atmosphere.

“We’ve always believed every great birthday party needs a cake,” Nau said. “America’s 250th birthday deserves something special.”

The Meltaway Bakery owner Drew Pineiro said the bakery is honored to help mark the historic occasion. Pineiro and his wife will serve the ceremonial tiered cake during the event.

In addition to cake, attendees will join in singing “Happy Birthday USA” as part of the festivities.

The event is free and open to the public.
