KENT – Putnam County will step back in time tomorrow as “Putnam County Heroes: Battle the Redcoats” comes to Veterans Memorial Park in Kent.
The Revolutionary War living history experience, part of America’s 250th anniversary commemoration, is being tabbed as a free, family-friendly event featuring Revolutionary War battle reenactments, military encampments, historical demonstrations, live performances, food vendors, children’s activities, and appearances by General George Washington and colonial-era reenactors throughout the day.
County Executive Kevin Byrne noted: “Putnam County played a significant role in America’s fight for independence, and this event is an exciting opportunity for residents and families to experience that history firsthand. As our nation celebrates its 250th anniversary, we are proud to honor the heroes of the Hudson Highlands and bring Revolutionary-era history to life right here in Putnam County.”
Opening ceremonies begin at 10:00 a.m. and will feature the Brewster Color Guard, performances by the West Point Band’s field music group “The Hellcats,” the Carmel High School Choir, historical presentations, and remarks from former Governor and Garrison resident George Pataki and County Executive Byrne.
Throughout the day, attendees will be able to explore authentic military camps, interact with historical interpreters and artisans, watch blacksmithing and woodworking demonstrations, meet authors and historians, enjoy colonial games and scavenger hunts, and witness cannon firings and tactical battle demonstrations.
