KINGSTON – Two of the Head Start Centers operated by Ulster County Community Action are shutting down.
The Saugerties and Ellenville facilities will be closing, but the Kingston center will remain open, said County Executive Jen Metzger.
She said it all boils down to a lack of federal funding needed to operate the centers. The county executive said there is one bit of light at the end of the tunnel for the children attending the Ellenville facility.
“All of the kids that would have returned to Head Start next year are all eligible for universal Pre-K at Ellenville, so we have been working with Lisa Wild, the amazing superintendent in Ellenville, to see if they can expand the program to accommodate those kids,” she said.
