KINGSTON – A committee of the Ulster County Legislature has signed on to a proposal to create a Victory Garden Preservation Program pilot that would initially serve four areas.
Committee Chairman Chris Hewett said it would be focused on sustainability going forward.
“This isn’t a food security project; it’s a food resiliency project. That’s why I insisted that it come through our committee because our committee is called Energy, Environment, Sustainability. When was the last time we had a resolution that was 100 percent focused on sustainability? This is the one.”
The resolution would create a policy to prioritize local food access and community resiliency with four sites initially.
