POUGHKEEPSIE – The Pelton Manor property in the Mount Carmel neighborhood of Poughkeepsie has received $1.25 million of New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) funding to move forward with the creation of a new multi-family rental community. The funding is part of the $9.7 million in DRI funding that was awarded to the City of Poughkeepsie to move forward with 10 projects that Governor Hochul says will upgrade civic, commercial, and cultural spaces while also building more housing “to drive down costs” in neighborhoods.
The developers, Pelton Partners LLC, plan to construct an arts center in the mansion and build six buildings that will contain both commercial spaces and apartments. In total, 39 multi-family units will be distributed among the six buildings on the 2.5-acre parcel where the dilapidated Pelton Manor is located on North Clover Street. Pelton Partners LLC has been trying to move this project forward since acquiring the property in 2015, but proponents kept the project in litigation until mid-2024, when Dutchess County Supreme Court Justice Maria Rosa issued the final decision allowing the developers to proceed.
Wayne Nussbickel, a partner in Pelton Partners, after learning of the grant award in late May, told Mid-Hudson News, “This grant is an incredible vote of confidence from the City and State that supports our vision. These funds will make it possible to put together a financial package that will allow Pelton Partners to move forward and build a project that will have a lasting, positive impact on our City and the Mount Carmel neighborhood for years to come.”
