NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh will likely have a new mayor when Torrance Harvey’s current term expires at the end of 2027.

He told that he is looking to retire from the post he has held for over nine years and turn over the reins to new blood.

“I think we have some really talented council members and the way I am feeling now I may let some new talent step into that seat,” he said.

One councilman, Robert McLymore, has privately expressed interest in the city’s top elected post.

Harvey first entered Newburgh politics when he served as a councilman-at-large for two years and was appointed mayor for two years to fill the unexpired term of Judy Kennedy, when she passed away.

Harvey then ran for two four-year terms, the second of which he has 17 months remaining.
