ELLENVILLE- The Joseph Y. Resnick Airport in Ellenville is set to receive a $153,933 grant to replace the airport’s aged weather observing system. This grant is part of a larger $19.6 million federal grant coming to airports throughout New York aimed at modernizing facilities, improving safety, and upgrading passenger services.
Of the total, $8.7 million comes through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Terminal Program, a grant initiative established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed in 2021. The program supports airport development projects nationwide, with a focus on modernizing terminals and improving accessibility and amenities.
An additional $10.9 million is being distributed through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, which funds planning and construction projects at airports across the country. Eligible uses include upgrades to runways and taxiways, safety enhancements, and environmental improvements.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who serves as ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, said the funding will help bring outdated airport infrastructure up to modern standards.
“As New York continues to upgrade outdated transportation systems to make travel easier and safer, I’m proud to deliver this critical federal funding,” Gillibrand said. “These investments will modernize and upgrade obsolete airport infrastructure in communities across the state.”
Senator Chuck Schumer emphasized the economic importance of maintaining strong airport infrastructure, citing benefits for both tourism and business.
“I’m proud to deliver nearly $20 million in federal funding for vital airport upgrades in every corner of New York,” Schumer said. “I fought hard to secure funding for our airports in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs law because the quality and safety of our airports are important for attracting business and tourism to New York, from big cities like Buffalo to rural communities.”
Officials say the funding will help ensure airports remain safe, efficient, and capable of meeting growing travel demand while supporting local economies statewide.
