BEDFORD HILLS- Three men are facing local and federal charges for allegedly stealing mail from a United States Postal Service mailbox outside the Bedford Hills Post Office.
Bedford Police Saturday reported the arrests of 26-year-old Breilin Mirabel Matos, of Mount Vernon; 29-year-old Orbik Gutierrez, of the Bronx; and 23-year-old Raymond Duluc Nathanial, also of the Bronx.
Police said the three men were caught during surveillance connected to a series of mail thefts from post office drop boxes in Katonah and Bedford. Using license plate readers and surveillance footage, detectives identified the suspects and the vehicle they believed was used in the mail thefts.
Authorities added that on Friday night, around 11 p.m., the suspect vehicle was parked near the Bedford Hills Post Office: “Three suspects got out of the vehicle. Two acted as lookouts, while a third man went to a drop box, removed several pieces of mail, and hid them in his pants,” according to police.
Police said officers approached the men as they stood outside the vehicle and took them into custody.
The three were charged with four counts each of larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, as well as possession of burglar tools and conspiracy.
The three were arraigned in Bedford Town Court and released pending further proceedings. They also face federal mail theft charges.
