HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Dozens of EMS personnel, both volunteer and professional, gathered Wednesday evening for the annual Dutchess County EMS Council Awards Dinner at the East Fishkill Fire District campus.  Council President Rob Matragano, his officers, and government officials joined the EMS providers and their families to honor the commitments and sacrifices made by the EMS community.

“What makes EMS truly special is that nobody enters this profession seeking awards or recognition,” said Matragano, adding, “People choose EMS because they care deeply about helping others.  They believe that when someone calls for help, someone should answer with compassion and confidence.”

A representative from Senator Rob Rolison’s Office, Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, County Emergency Response Commissioner William Beale, and Legislator Chris Drago, joined the awards ceremony, with each presenting certificates recognizing the evening’s honorees.

LaGrange Professional Firefighter and EMT-P Nate Herring-Trott was honored as the organization’s Advanced Life Support (ALS) Provider of the year for reviving two patients suffering from dangerous cardiac emergencies and saving the life of a newborn baby.  The hero was also recognized for saving the life of a motorcyclist involved in an accident in Poughkeepsie.  Herring-Trott was with his children, enjoying a day off and came across the accident, and without hesitation, began lifesaving measures.
