On day 12 the past weekend represented a huge leap into what this bucket list trip is all about. On Saturday afternoon we boarded the Disney magic in Vancouver and that evening we set sail for Alaska. We had to attend a mandatory muster drill for safety and evacuation procedures.
It was pretty cool because we had a crew member who was quite animated and funny at the same time even though it was a serious topic. He made the 15-minute drill fun.
After that we settled into our state room and sat on the veranda listening to the waves created by the ship. The British Columbia province in Canada is huge because we’ve traveled north overnight from Vancouver and we will still be at sea for a day before we reach Alaska. For the most part there’s nothing but wilderness on each shoreline in northern Canada and it included some snow capped mountains and tall pine trees.
One thing about traveling the inland seaway, it’s very calm and I can hardly feel that we’re moving. We sat down for dinner in one of the three main dining rooms and I had smoked salmon for an appetizer and a steak for dinner. The food was amazing and the service was even better.
It’s really a luxurious feeling being aboard a ship. I didn’t think I would ever like cruising, but so far this experience is extraordinary. I think what makes it better is because we can see land, but I think a cruise out in the ocean first of all will be rougher, and then all you would see is the water and I think that could be boring after a while. This trip is far from that.
