POUGHKEEPSIE – planned power outage in the City of Poughkeepsie at the and DoubleTree Hotel fortified and replaced aging infrastructure and improved reliability across significant parts of the city, utility spokesman Joe Jenkins said.

The overnight shutdown on May 11 had been planned and worked out for months with the operators of the MJN Convention Center, where aging and damaged cables had been located under the driveway at the complex that includes the McCann Ince Arena, civic center, and the adjacent DoubleTree Hotel, Jenkins added.

“This planned outage enabled system improvements that will reduce the frequency of unexpected and extended outages throughout the city going forward and ensure safer, more reliable electric service for thousands of homes and businesses for decades to come,” said Jenkins.

During the scheduled outages, which lasted from 7 p.m. on Monday to 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, guests at the DoubleTree were provided with accommodations at other area hotels, arranged by hotel management.
