MONTICELLO- A Neversink man convicted of fatally shooting his father in 2023 has been sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison, according to the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
Drew Botsford, 49, was sentenced by Sullivan County Court Judge James R. Farrell following his conviction for second-degree murder in the death of his father, Lloyd Botsford, 71.
Prosecutors said the shooting happened on Oct. 8, 2023, at the family’s Bradley Road home in the Town of Neversink. During a five-day jury trial, prosecutors argued that after an argument with his father, Botsford retrieved a .22-caliber rifle from a bedroom closet, loaded a single round and fired one shot into his father’s head while Lloyd Botsford sat watching football in the living room.
Family members later found Lloyd Botsford unresponsive on the couch and called emergency responders, who attempted life-saving measures at the scene.
District Attorney Brian P. Conaty called the killing “a shocking and deeply disturbing act of violence” and praised investigators and prosecutors for securing the conviction.
