BEACON – Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) recently announced a $125,000 legislative grant for a rooftop solar project in the City of Beacon, totaling $289,000.
The solar array, installed on the city’s Highway Department garage, generates renewable, more affordable energy for the building. Jacobson is pictured with, from left: Renua Energy Founder and President David Byrne, City Administrator Ben Swanson, Mayor Lee Kyriacou, and Councilmember Zack Smith.
“When it comes to renewable energy, Beacon is turning rhetoric into reality,” Jacobson said. “I hope other municipalities see this solar installation and realize that better energy options are possible.”
The $289,000 project was managed by Renua Energy, which installed the 95.7 kW DC/100 kW AC solar Photovoltaic system on the roof of the Beacon Highway Garage. It provides power to the building, offsetting the city’s energy costs. The garage was originally constructed with rooftop solar in mind. In addition to funding from the Assemblymember, the city received funds through NYSERDA’s NY-Sun program and Clean Energy Communities grants. Renua will maintain the system for its first 2 years.
