MIDDLETOWN – Tuition for a full-time student attending SUNY Orange in the fall will be $6,168, up from $5,988 in the academic year just ending.
The total college budget, as presented to the College Board of Trustees, is $24.5 million, said Paul Martland.
“We hate to be in the position of raising tuition and fees, but the economic reality of the college is that in order to continue to provide the services we provide at the level we provide them, we do need to do that,” he said. “But fortunately, even though they are higher, community colleges are still the most affordable way into higher education, and we are pleased to be a part of that.”
Student fees, which have remained stable for years, will increase by 10 percent in the new spending plan.
While the cost to run the college is meant to be funded one-third each by the county, students and the state, the county this year will contribute 32.8 percent, students will cover 40.6 percent, and the state will fund less than 20 percent.
