NEWBURGH – The suspect in Wednesday afternoon’s barricade standoff in the City of Newburgh was identified on Thursday as 19-year-old Sebastian Vazquez of Newburgh.
Police responded to 61 Hasbrouck Street around 2:30 p.m. for a report of a violent domestic incident going on.
When officers arrived, the victim was outside with Vazquez barricaded in the first-floor apartment, refusing to come out.
Officers attempted to negotiate with him for over 3 ½ hours during which time the city police department drone unit deployed multiple interior drones to monitor the interior of the home.
Following extended negotiations, Valquez was convinced to come out at about 6:50 p.m. where he was handcuffed and arrested and charged with assault.
The Newburgh City Fire Department and Empress EMS stood by at the scene to provide assistance if needed.
