HUDSON – The Correctional Association of New York has released a report on Hudson Correctional Facility, a medium-security prison in Hudson, New York.

The report follows a January 2025 monitoring visit in which monitors learned that inmates reported a low level of verbal, physical or sexual abuse by staff, said Sumeet Sharma, the association’s executive director.

“We did hear a lot of concerns about access to programs and access to adequate medical care and dental care,” he said. “So, Hudson is a facility that is purportedly program heavy, but staffing shortages for program staff seems to have had a negative effect on people being able to access programs on a regular and consistent basis.”

Hudson has a 30 percent vacancy in medical staff positions, raising issues about the quality of care, Sharma said.

The Correctional Association of New York is charged under state law with visiting and examining the state’s prisons to identify and report on conditions, treatment of inmates, and the administration of policy promulgated by the executive and legislature.
