MID-HUDSON – The weatherman cooperated Tuesday when hundreds of law enforcement professionals as well as their supporters took part in the 40-mile Hudson Valley Tri-County Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the run raised awareness and funds for Special Olympics athletes and their families.

More than 6,200 law enforcement professionals represented 470 agencies, all carrying the Flame of Hope throughout the state.

The Hudson Valley run began in southern Westchester before converging on White Plains. Midday segments joined from Rockland County with a northern spur from Cold Spring and Garrison converging into the main route in Cortlandt bringing participants together for the final stretch.

Erin Scott of Lake Carmel, who organizes Special Olympics activities at a school she teaches at in Dutchess County, described the run as the “best yet. There were such enthusiasm and support. Our special athletes and their families genuinely appreciated the effort.”
