MAHOPAC – A 47-year-old Mahopac man is facing a slew of charges in connection with a shooting at his Narcissus Drive home located at the Mahopac-Somers border.
State Police Monday said troopers were summoned to the John Fiore residence at 12:15 a.m. last weekend for a report of a man being shot.
Troop K spokeswoman Officer Trooper Krystal Paolicelli said when questioned by troopers, Fiore said he opened the front door of his residence and observed an unknown man standing on the front steps who fired a single round from a handgun, striking him in the left knee.
An investigation conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that Fiore’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted and that the reported incident was fabricated.
Later that day, troopers executed a search warrant at Fiore’s residence resulting in the seizure of numerous firearms, including two reported stolen, psilocybin mushrooms, and multiple baggies containing a white powdery substance.
Fiore was charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, 13 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and falsely reporting an incident.
He was arraigned and remanded to custody and remains hospitalized with his injuries.
Assisting the State Police in the investigation were Carmel Police Department, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and the Westchester County Police Department.
