MIDDLETOWN – With the warmer weather upon us, we are seeing more and more motorized scooters on roads and they are causing a hazard to both their operators and the general public.
Middletown Police Chief John Ewanciw said they will be cracking down on those operators.
“We’ve tried education. We’ve done stops and handouts where we handed out information rather than citations, but it’s not getting the impact that we need. I don’t think it’s anything other than people thinking they can do whatever they want on them,” he said. “I don’t think they realize that they are subjected to the laws and rules, just like everybody else.”
So, the chief said his department will now shift to an enforcement effort to rid the electric scooters from city streets.
