SOUTHEAST- Is Putnam County becoming the gun-toting capital of the Hudson Valley? A recent number of arrests for weapons possession is adding to that moniker.
State Police and Putnam Sheriff’s Department personnel have arrested several suspects during the past week, with the most recent at 2:49 a.m. when troopers from the Somers barracks stopped a speeding car on eastbound Route 84 in Southeast.
Troop K Public Information Officer Trooper Krystal Paolicelli said when interviewing the driver, Jayden Samaniego, 21, of Danbury, troopers noticed a Glock 9mm handgun in plain view. The firearm held a magazine holding multiple rounds of ammunition.
Samaniego faced a felony charge for criminal possession of a firearm.
Following arraignment in Carmel Town Court the Connecticut man was released without bail pending a future court hearing in Southeast on May 14.
The charge carries a maximum 15-year state prison term if convicted.
