MONTICELLO- Sullivan County’s financial reporting practices have once again received national recognition, marking a milestone achievement for the County Treasurer’s Office.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded Sullivan County both the Financial Reporting Achievement Award and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the county’s 2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).  This year marks the 35th consecutive time the county has received the honor.

The awards are presented after an independent panel reviews a municipality’s financial report to ensure it meets the organization’s rigorous standards for transparency, accuracy and accessibility.  According to the GFOA, Sullivan County’s report demonstrated a strong “spirit of full disclosure” while effectively communicating financial information in a way that encourages public understanding.

County Treasurer Kathleen Lara praised her staff for continuing the office’s longstanding record of excellence.

“My team and I are thrilled we won this award again, carrying on a long and proud tradition in the Sullivan County Treasurer’s Office,” Lara said.  “Credit must go to my staff, led by Senior Fiscal Administrative Officer Shannan Armbrust, under whom this achievement was realized.”

In a statement accompanying the award, GFOA Director of Technical Services Michele Mark Levine commended the county’s commitment to high standards in government finance reporting.

“We hope that your example will encourage other government officials in their efforts to achieve and maintain an appropriate standard of excellence in financial reporting,” Levine stated.

The GFOA is a national nonprofit association representing approximately 21,000 government finance professionals across the United States and Canada, with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
