CARMEL – Putnam County’s coroners Dr. Michael Nesheiwat, John Bourges, and Wendy Erickson were called upon nine times during the first quarter of the year.

From January to March, the coroners investigated two suicides, two accidental deaths, and five deaths resulting from natural causes.

Last year the coroner’s office investigated some 30 cases that included nine cases of suicide; however, the first time in years, the coroners did not investigate a death related to an accidental overdose of drugs or alcohol.

Coroners are summoned when a person dies at a residence or at an accident scene, or when death occurs under suspicious circumstances.
