GOSHEN – Acknowledging that Orange County, the region, state, and nation are in a housing crisis, the county legislature Thursday voted to hire a consultant to conduct a county-wide housing study. This is the next step following last year’s look at the issue by a subcommittee of the legislature.
The look into the housing shortages and costs to rent and purchase was initiated by County Legislator Genesis Ramos, who said following Thursday’s vote, that “this is a major first step the legislature is taking toward addressing the housing crisis, and one I look forward to supporting and championing alongside the housing task force.”
Legislator Rob Sassi co-chaired the Housing Task Force Committee last year and backs this next step
“My other hat is a realtor, and it’s sad to see that young people in Orange County cannot afford to buy a home,” he said. He said by supporting the new plan, “we can take a deeper look at the situation here in Orange County.”
The county will issue a request for proposals to select a consultant to conduct the study.
