HYDE PARK, N.Y. — A 20-year-old Hyde Park man died Sunday night after his car left the road and struck a tree, authorities said. Austin Caston was driving south on North Quaker Lane near Forest Drive around 9 p.m. when his Pontiac G6 veered off the roadway and hit a tree, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
Members of the West Clinton Fire Department extricated Caston from the vehicle while providing life-saving aid.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Caston lost control of his vehicle before the crash, the sheriff’s office said. Caston was taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, despite efforts by first responders.
“At this time,” said Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Captain John Watterson, “the investigation is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office’s Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit, and more information may be released at another time as it becomes available.”
