ROCK HILL – The Lake Communities Alliance Steering Committee has exhausted its legal efforts to block construction of two warehouse/distribution centers in the Rock Hill section of the Town of Thompson.

The state’s highest court, the Appeals Court, has ruled that the project, with a total of over 561,000 square feet, may proceed.

While the group has no legal remedy left, group leader Jessica Lansdale said the town planning board must grant a new permit as the previous one expired.

And Lansdale said since the project was initially proposed, the community has grown.

“There has been a lot of development in Rock Hill. So now, Rock Hill is probably maxed out with traffic. So, when Avon Park runs their numbers again, they probably will not be able to justify the traffic, because the way they have already designed the traffic to the facility, they can’t make it anymore generous,” she said. “So, hopefully that will put the kibosh on it, and the community will put a lot of pressure on it, too.”

Lansdale said the Avon Park project, according to the court decision, may only be used for warehousing, not for distribution.
