A new report outlines extensive planning for May Day demonstrations across the United States, with organizers coordinating thousands of events tied to a broad network socialist, communist and Marxist groups.

According to Fox News Digital, investigators identified roughly 600 organizations involved in coordinating approximately 3,000 demonstrations nationwide, representing an estimated combined annual revenue of about $2 billion. The report describes the coalition as including a range of groups with socialist, Marxist, and communist affiliations.

The demonstrations are scheduled in multiple cities, including Washington, D.C., Chicago, and more than two dozen other locations across the country. Participants are encouraging supporters to refrain from work, school, and consumer activity as part of the coordinated events.

The report identifies organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of America, the People’s Forum, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the ANSWER Coalition, and Code Pink as playing central roles in organizing the mobilization. It also notes involvement from groups including Indivisible, MoveOn.org, the American Federation of Teachers, and several state and local Democratic Party entities.

The origins of May Day trace back to labor demonstrations in the late 19th century. The observance, first formalized in 1890 as International Workers’ Day, commemorates workers killed during the 1886 Haymarket protests in Chicago.

Political reactions to the planned demonstrations have varied. Democratic strategist Melissa DeRosa said the growing alignment between mainstream Democratic organizations and more activist groups could carry political implications.

“The increasing willingness of mainstream Democrats to align with extremist socialist groups is a major factor in why the Democratic Party is losing the center more and more, and why so many lifelong Democrats find themselves feeling politically homeless,” DeRosa told Fox News Digital.

“May Day has a proud history of honoring workers,” she added, “but too many Democratic organizations have allowed that tradition to be hijacked by the activist fringe — including groups aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America, pushing a fantasy agenda that has failed everywhere it has been tried.”

While U.S.-based demonstrations are expanding, May Day events are also taking place globally, reflecting varied political and economic contexts.

In China, state-run media projected increased consumer activity tied to the holiday, reporting expectations of a surge in travel and spending. Coverage in the Global Times described the anticipated economic activity as a sign of growth and resilience, according to this report.

Vietnam marked the occasion with a parade in Hanoi recognizing workers’ contributions to national development, as reported here. Officials highlighted the holiday’s historical significance, noting that it commemorates more than a century of labor movement activity, as detailed in background information available here.

In Cuba, government-organized events included speeches and rallies emphasizing national resilience and opposition to external pressures, according to coverage here. Speakers referenced longstanding political themes tied to the country’s revolutionary history.

North Korea also marked the holiday with official statements emphasizing national ideology and worker contributions. State media highlighted loyalty to the governing system and described May Day as a celebration of labor achievements, according to reporting here.

Separately, U.S.-based activist coalitions called for economic protests centered on labor issues, immigration policies, and taxation. Coverage of these efforts is available here.

The coordinated events, both domestically and internationally, underscore the continuing role of May Day as a focal point for labor advocacy, political expression, and economic messaging across diverse regions and organizations.
