ALBANY – State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) has secured a $30,000 grant to support ‘Land to Learn’s SproutEd’ program, which brings hands-on, garden-based education to several schools in his district.
SproutEd brings its garden-based education to K-3rd grade students in public elementary schools in Kingston, Newburgh and Beacon.
The program builds school food gardens and teaches monthly lessons throughout the years, integrating gardening, nutrition, cooking, plant science, and environmental stewardship into hands-on learning experiences.
Lessons give students the chance to plant seeds, harvest, prepare nutritious snacks, and explore their connection to food, health, and the natural world.
The program also supports various wellness and environmental initiatives happening in participating schools, including the promotion of fresh produce in cafeterias.
