SULLIVAN COUNTY – The Daffodil Project is a worldwide initiative that honors the children who perished in the Holocaust by planting 1.5 million daffodils in their memory. Creating a living, blooming tribute into a seasonal reminder of growth and collective remembrance. Hope Blecker started the Sullivan County Memorials three years ago. “We have planted 12,000 yellow daffodil bulbs,” she says.

Seeing them come alive and bloom is symbolic.

“The impact of the flower or the impact of what it means, the impact of why it was selected (because) it represents the yellow star that people were forced to wear during WWII, but out of that, there’s beauty that can blossom,” she said.

The gardens of Hope are spreading.

“(They are in) Livingston Manor and Parksville and Liberty and Fallsburg and Monticello; so, you know, not only is it a message that is spreading, but it’s also the beauty that is spreading.”
