CARMEL – Putnam County shoppers were active in March, generating over $7.6 million in sales tax receipts for the month— an increase of $1.8 million compared to March 2025.

Commissioner of Finance William Varlin presented his monthly sales tax report to members of the county Legislature’s Audit Committee Monday evening.

The collection ended a two-month drop in sales tax revenue and marked one of the biggest monthly increases in years.

Putnam’s six towns and three villages are set to receive direct revenue benefits: Carmel will get $221,000, Kent $85,000, Patterson $76,000, Philipstown $47,000, Putnam Valley $77,000, and Southeast $102,000.

Village checks are also in the mail. Brewster is slated to receive $16,000; Cold Spring—$13,000 and Nelsonville—$4,000.

In 2025, Putnam collected its largest amount of sales tax ever – $79.3 million and this year lawmakers have projected $83.5 million in sales tax revenue by year’s end.
