2026 Cops & Bobbers

TOWN OF LLOYD – The Lloyd Police Department, under the leadership of Chief Jim Janso, held a very successful “” on Saturday, with local kids reeling in more than 75 fish while also catching valuable raffle prizes.  The fishing derby, which includes stocking the lake at Berean Park in Lloyd with 500 trout, was supported entirely through generous community donations.

“We couldn’t do this without the tremendous support from Hannaford’s, Dutchess Beverage, and the local businesses who donated money for medals, trophies, and raffle prizes,” Chief Janso explained.  “The entire community comes together for this event, including the Rotary Club, whose members cook the burgers and dogs, the Federated Sportsmen’s Clubs of Ulster County, who operate the Lend-a-Pole program, and our officers who show up to help and interact with the kids.”

Financial support from the community made it possible to purchase the 500 trout, including five “Golden Trout” from the Beaverkill Hatchery for $3,000.  The fish were delivered earlier in the week, and off-duty cops and Chief Janso transferred the trout from the truck to the lake using buckets.  The large number of fish introduced to the lake improves the odds of success for young anglers, reducing their frustration and making the day enjoyable for all.
