TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Students in the Junior and Senior classes at learned about several different employment fields at the school’s annual Career Fair on Friday morning. At the gathering, 350 students interacted with journalists, law enforcement, the building trades, the military, and representatives from several other fields.
Located directly behind the booth, the Dutchess County Sheriff Kirk Imperati. The booth was manned by Sergeant Alonzo Montanya with two deputies and featured a virtual reality TASER simulator, giving students a chance to be immersed in the high-stress, fast-moving situations that law enforcement may encounter that require the use of force of various levels.
“While it appeals to the ‘gamers’, the simulator is an important tool for training law enforcement for situations they may encounter during their careers,” Imperati previously told Mid-Hudson News. “It’s a vital asset that trains for the safety of both the officers and those they encounter.”
Asked what he liked about Career Day, one member of the Class of 2026 said, “There is a wide array of career fields represented, and it gives us a chance to learn about jobs we didn’t know about before today. I’m glad so many companies took the time to be here.”
