ELLENVILLE – Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger held a ribbon-cutting ceremony that celebrated the official unveiling of Ulster County’s first DC rapid electric vehicle chargers in southern Ulster. The event was held on Earth Day, and it was no coincidence because Metzger said clean powered EVs are the future.

“Despite the administration in Washington’s best efforts, electrification is just the future.”

She says that despite the controversy surrounding EVs, there is an economic advantage to having them in villages like Ellenville.

“People will come here, they’ll charge their car, they’ll go to Gaby’s and get lunch. They’ll go to Cohen’s and get some babka, (or) you know, maybe take in the Borscht Belt Museum,”

Ellenville Village Mayor Evan Trent says the charges will lure tourists. “Now they have a reason to stop here and get into our downtown and maybe see Ellenville for the first time as we do.”

There are two more high-speed EV chargers in town in the Taco Bell shopping plaza.
