Wanted fugitive from Florida apprehended after hit-and-run investigation

LIBERTY – A driver involved in a hit-and-run incident in the Village of Liberty was arrested as a fugitive from justice in the state of Florida.

Liberty Village Police investigated an accident at the intersection of Chestnut and North Main Streets on January 24. Investigation led to the March 30 arrest of Allen Leroy, 34, of Livingston Manor.

It is alleged that he sped through the Liberty intersection and struck a parked vehicle before he fled the scene.

When arrested with the assistance of State Police, Leroy was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

In Florida, he is wanted on possession of a weapon or ammunition by a state felon, resisting officer/obstruction without violence, and battery touch or strike.

Leroy was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail pending an extradition hearing.
