Dutchess County’s Chirpy

POUGHKEEPSIE — Dutchess County will launch its Rev 250 initiative this April to commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary. The county is rolling out a series of new events and opportunities for residents to celebrate the nation’s milestone.

The initiative aims to educate the public about life in the Hudson Valley during the Revolutionary Era. Highlights include the RevCon historical reenactment at the FDR Library on June 13 and the Revolutionary Cider Experience at Fishkill Farms on June 27.

County Historian William Tatum announced the launch of a new smartphone app, Sgt. Chirp Dispatch, on April 13. The app features an animated cricket character to help children learn about Dutchess County history in an interactive way.

Legislature Chair Yvette Valdés Smith expressed support for the initiative.  “These amazing events will allow residents of all ages to get a glimpse of what our region was like in 1776,” Valdés Smith said. “I hope to see neighbors and visitors alike exploring Dutchess County and observing the 250th anniversary of the great American experiment.”
