KINGSTON – A ribbon was cut Wednesday at Ulster County Family Court for the dedication of the Kathy A. Lasko & Honorable Karen K. Peters Children’s Center.
The center is a space for children as their parents settle custody battles in one of the many courtrooms at the family court. The late Lasko was a former chief clerk, who served from 1978-2017, and helped start the children’s center with Peters.
“Kathy’s influence is what made it where we are today,” said Dawn Mendez Knox, the current chief clerk.
“(We are here) to honor her and her legacy. Regrettably, she passed away two years ago this past March.”
Children’s Centers, referred to as a safe spaces, where kids are spared the drama during custody battles, are also part of the family court systems in Dutchess and Orange counties.
