GOSHEN – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced that Selina Nelson-Reilly, 46, of Chester, has pleaded guilty in Orange County Court to felony tampering with physical evidence and misdemeanor of attempted tampering.
Prosecutors said Nelson-Reilly deleted 17 videos from a smart doorbell camera at her home, which captured footage of her husband, John Reilly III, shooting a delivery driver last May. John Reilly was convicted on two counts of felony assault and eight counts of criminal possession of a firearm last month for shooting food delivery driver Alpha Barry as he drove away from his Town of Chester home.
Reilly now faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced by Judge Craig Brown on May 18.
Under her plea agreement, Nelson-Reilly will be placed on interim probation and must complete 200 hours of community service. Sentencing will be delayed for one year. If she violates the conditions, fails to complete the service, or is rearrested, she faces up to 1⅓ to 4 years in prison. If she complies and remains arrest-free, she will be allowed to withdraw her felony plea and be sentenced on the misdemeanor, which carries up to one year in the Orange County Jail.
The day after the shooting, Nelson-Reilly denied knowledge of the incident to investigators and later deleted the doorbell footage. She also texted a friend saying she had permanently deleted the videos. In court, she admitted she acted to prevent the footage from being used in an official proceeding.
Hoovler credited the New York State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their roles in the investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold.
